Thank you for reserving the Sensory Calming Room at Headquarters Library! Here’s some helpful information for your visit:

General Information

  • Location: The Sensory Calming Room is on the 2nd floor. Use the stairs or elevator. Check in at the 2nd-floor service desk when you arrive.
  • Capacity: The room is for individuals or small groups (up to 6 people) with sensory needs.
  • Cleanup: Reservations include 15 minutes at the end of your visit to cleanup and reset the room for the next visitors.
  • Food and Drink: No food or drinks are allowed in the Sensory Calming Room, but you can enjoy snacks and lidded drinks in other library areas.

Atmosphere

  • Purpose: The room helps those with sensory processing challenges or who need a quiet space for a peaceful escape.
  • Lighting: Features ocean-themed visuals and soft lighting options like a bubble tube, ocean projections and jellyfish aquarium light.
  • Seating: Seating includes a bean bag chair, rocking chair and padded seating around the bubble tube.

Guided Experiences

  • Communication Board: Available in English and Spanish, this board helps people express their needs using symbols.
  • Virtual Tour: Check out our video for a virtual tour of the Sensory Calming Room.
  • Staff Support: Trained staff are available to help you during your visit.

Cancellation Policy

If you can't make it, please cancel your reservation to allow others to use the room. You can cancel up to 15 minutes into your reservation by:

  1. Clicking the cancellation link in your confirmation email.
  2. Using the link in your reminder email.
  3. Calling us at (910) 483-7727 ext. 1361.

Note: Not showing up without cancellation will count as a "No Show," which may affect future reservations.
