Rip Van Winkle Book Club: The Caretaker

In 1951, Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Blackburn Gant lives a secluded life as the caretaker of a hilltop cemetery, a role that seems fitting after a childhood battle with polio left his life forever changed. The eerie happenings that occasionally disturb the cemetery unsettle him far less than dealing with people. But when his only friend, the kind yet impulsive Jacob Lampton, is drafted for military service overseas, Blackburn is entrusted with looking after Jacob's wife, Naomi, too.
