Event Details
In the fall of 1918, a deadly wave of influenza swept across North Carolina, leaving entire communities reeling. Known as the “Blue Death” for the bluish tint it left on its victims, the Spanish flu killed 13,000 in North Carolina and reshaped daily life in ways still felt today. This program explores how the pandemic affected North Carolina's towns, families and public health systems. Using historic newspapers, death records and personal accounts, we’ll uncover how North Carolinians endured one of the deadliest pandemics in history.
